High Places - Altos Lugares
High Places released two nearly perfect albums in 2008, 03/07-09/07 (which, as the name suggests, was actually a compilation of material previously released in 2007) and High Places. Their fall-off afterwards reminds me of Nas post-Illmatic. It Was Written was not a bad album, but it was not Illmatic. Same goes for High Places. High Places vs. Mankind (2010) and Original Colors (2011) are not bad. In some ways, they are more interesting than the earlier High Places releases. They are “darker” and more “complex.” But they abandoned the purity of the High Places’ early releases that was, as I said, nearly perfect.
Still, the band is able to record good songs. “Altos Lugares” is the final track from Original Colors. It’s not bad. It’s no “Sandy Feat” or “Jump In” or “Vision’s the First” or “From Stardust to Sentience.” But it’s solid.
