On Rihanna’s Album Covers
I am working my way through the Rihanna discography. I have little to say about the quality of the music, which is consistently not-bad, with the exception of the singles, which I already knew were good. I’m actually more interested in her albums’ cover designs. The cover above, from Music of the Sun, is clearly the worst. I suppose this makes sense, since it was her first album and expenditures on cover design were likely lower than they would be for later albums. But I’m not sure how much that explains. I think I could have designed a better album cover than that. But I suppose tastes are different.
Her best album cover is either the cover for Good Girl Gone Bad or the cover for Loud:
There is much more to say here about Rihanna’s changing image, but I’m not qualified to comment on that since I’m still working my way through the discography.
